Lindsay here from Girls Rock Indy. We have a message we’re trying to get out.
As most of you know, the whole premise of rock camp is to help young girls obtain a positive self-esteem and self-image at the time they need it most…and we use music as the platform. It’s not as easy as it sounds. With the pressures of being a teen, bullying, betrayal from friends, being a teen can be some of the most challenging of all times. But that’s not all we encounter.
There’s a SERIOUS problem out there…THE MEDIA. It’s as if we’re fighting a losing battle and have been for so long. Things need to change. People need to open up their eyes. We’re fighting sexism…not sexy. So, Girls Rock Indy, Girls Inc of Indy, Planned Parenthood of Indiana, Historic Indianapolis, Yuspie LLC and Demia @ Butler University are bringing the acclaimed, Sundance Film Festival Documentary, “Miss Representation” to Butler University THIS Thursday, November 17th at 7pm in the Pharmacy Building, PB 150.
We believe this film is not just for teens. It’s for EVERYONE. We all struggle, we all have standards that we’ve allowed society to put on us that can sometimes effect our self-image. Please join us on Thursday for this special, FREE, screening of Miss Representation. Rated PG-13 (note to parents, we will be viewing this film for the first time on Thursday). Please take a moment to view the trailer.
