Girls Rock! Indy camp is a day camp for girls, non-binary, and trans youth ages 9-16. Campers attend a week-long crash course in instrument instruction, songwriting, and musical collaboration as well as interactive workshops and lessons focused on building confidence, personal empowerment, and leadership skills through the lens of music education.

Camp culminates with a Saturday Showcase where campers perform the original songs that they created throughout the week. Campers do not need to have any prior music experience, and instruments will be provided. This year we will also be offering an audio production track. It is open to campers entering 7th grade (or older).

For 2024, we are changing camp up a bit. Our new camp structure and offerings are as follows:

  • Camp Week 1 (July 8th-12th) will be our regular Full Day Camp programming for 9 to 16 year olds with the same amount of campers that would attend both weeks combined.
  • Camp Week 2 (July 15th-19th) we are kicking off a 6-8 year old Half Day Camp, a Full Day Instrument Intensive Camp, AND a Full Day DJ/Production Camp

Camp tuition for 6-8 year old (half-day) is $300.00 per camper. Intensive Instrument tuition is $375.00 for one camper to attend one week of camp. And new this year, if you have a multiple campers in your family or your camper would like to attend both weeks, we’re offering a multiple camper discount where 1 camper attending 2 weeks or 2 different campers attending 2 separate weeks is $650.

The application for camp closes on March 18th. There is no application fee. Financial aid, with a sliding scale, is available; more information can be found in the application. The minimum payment for that scale is $50. Tuition will be billed after acceptance letters are sent out, and will be due by May 31st.

Girls Rock! Indy Summer camp is a Day Camp for girls, non-binary, gender exspansive, and trans youth ages 6-16. Along with our traditional Band Camp, we now offer a camp for 6-8 year olds and a DJ Camp or 9-16 year olds

Our traditional Band Camp for 9-16 year olds is week-long crash course in instrument instruction, songwriting, and musical collaboration, as well as interactive workshops and activities focused on building confidence, personal empowerment, and leadership skills through the lens of music education. Campers our split into 5 piece bands based off their instrument preference, and age group, upon applying. Our 9-12 year olds are Mp3s and our 13-16 year olds are Vinyls. Camp culminates with a Saturday Showcase where campers perform the original songs they created with their band during the week. Campers do not need any prior music experience, and all instruments will be provided.

Our 6-8 year old camp offers our youngest campers (or “Streamers”) the opportunity to get to experience all 5 of our instrument tracks daily, while also offering interactive workshops, activities and more catered to this age group. This week culminates in a Saturday Showcase where our “Streamers” will get to showcase what they learned on all 5 instruments! All instruments are provided and no prior music experience is required.

Our DJ Camp offers 9-16 year olds the opportunity to learn all the basics and more of DJing. Our DJs will learn how to mix and blend music live on Serato, while also learning about song structure, song selection, how to setup DJ equipment and organize their music,  and everything they will need to know to DJ on their own, whether as a hobby or professionsally. Like our traditional Band Camp, they will also participate in workshops and interactive activities throughout the week. They will show off their skills with a DJ set they created and learned at  the Saturday Showcase.

All three of our camps our facilitated and run by women, non-binary, and trans professional musicians and music educators with many years of experience in their chosen tracks. We are so proud and fortunate to now have a very large group of previous campers as part of our staff and volunteers as well!

AMPLIFIERS

The Amplifier program was introduced in 2017 as a counselor-in-training program for older and returning campers, to expand their music and leadership skills. Amplifiers serve as mentors for younger campers and receive exclusive access to leadership workshops, activities and experiences.

The Amplifiers program is open to high school-age individuals who have previously attended Girls Rock! Indianapolis summer camp. This experience is limited to 10 campers for each camp session.

YEAR-ROUND PROGRAMS

In addition to summer camp, GRI partners with community organizations to bring our mentoring and music education programs to youth around Central Indiana.
